Speaking of education, the coronavirus pandemic also highlighted the digital divide that many students experience depending on their housing status or neighborhood they live in. This had many mixed feelings from teachers, parents and students. However, teachers in areas like San Jose were expected to be in the classroom and teach their virtual class there. Most students continued to attend classes virtually. In August, San Mateo County was one of the first counties in the region to approve an ordinance to fine anyone who didn't wear a face covering while in public. For 2020 high school graduates in the Bay Area, the pandemic is made them consider taking a gap year. The pandemic changed the lives of everyone, including students. This represented an amazing opportunity to create an affordable, beautiful, and sustainable product that allows anyone to print photos on simple pieces of glass and easily hang them in their living spaces. We also realized that home photo printing options were either high quality and expensive or cheap and flimsy. We thought, “what if we just… got rid of it?” And so, Fracture was born. We started thinking about what was wrong with the photo printing experiences we’d personally had and realized there was one common element: the frame.
